Nasal Covid-19 vaccine could soon become a reality in India

Hyderabad: Bharat Biotech has completed a clinical trial for the world’s first clinically proven nasal Covid-19 vaccine.

Bharat Biotech International Limited is an Indian multinational biotechnology company headquartered in Hyderabad, India.

“Data analysis is going on. We’ll submit the data to regulatory agency. If everything is okay, we’ll get permission to launch & it will be world’s 1st clinically proven nasal Covid-19 vaccine,” the Chairman and MD of Bharat Biotech, Dr Krishna Ella, was quoted as saying by ANI.

Bharat Biotech got the ‘in-principle’ approval to for the ‘phase-III booster dose study’ for its intranasal Covid vaccine  by the Drugs Controller General of India’s (DCGI) Subject Expert Committee (SEC). It is a first of its kind in India. DCGI, SEC asked it to submit protocols for approval a few weeks ago.

Reportedly, having the potential to prevent transmission for new Covid-19 variants such as Omicron, The intranasal vaccines stimulates a broad immune response neutralising IgG, mucosal IgA, and T cell responses and creates an immune response at the site of infection (in the nasal mucosa) essential for blocking both infection and transmission of Covid-19.” Bharat Biotech’s website claimed.
