Hyderabad: A heartbreaking incident unfolded at Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad on Sunday around 7am, resulting in the tragic death of a newborn baby boy. The unfortunate event occurred when an attendant of another patient, suffering from dizziness, accidentally fell on the newborn.
The baby’s mother, M Pushpamma, had given birth to the child two days prior at Parigi Government Hospital in Vikarabad. Due to the baby’s underweight condition at just 1.3kg, the family sought better medical care at Niloufer Hospital in the city. The infant was undergoing treatment in the outpatient ward.
Initially placed in a cradle, the baby was later picked up by Pushpamma to be fed and put to sleep. Juggling between holding her son and her medical file, she attempted to prepare for the doctor’s visit. Realizing the difficulty of managing both tasks, Pushpamma gently placed the baby on the floor while she organized her medical reports. Tragically, this moment of vulnerability led to the devastating accident, as described by Nampally Police Inspector B Abhilash.
In the same ward, another attendant named Komaramma, hailing from Mancherial, suddenly experienced dizziness and lost control. Regrettably, she fell directly onto the fragile infant, causing severe injuries and rendering the baby unconscious. Despite immediate medical intervention, the infant could not be saved, and doctors pronounced him dead after examination.
Pushpamma, who comes from a family of farmers, was devastated by the loss of her child. In response to a complaint filed by the grieving parents, authorities registered a case under Section 304A (negligence causing death) of the IPC against Komaramma.
