A political controversy has erupted in Telangana after opposition supporters criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's publicity campaign linked to the FIFA World Cup final, following Argentina's defeat in the title clash.

Hyderabad: A political controversy has erupted in Telangana after opposition supporters criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s publicity campaign linked to the FIFA World Cup final, following Argentina’s defeat in the title clash.

According to claims circulating on social media, Congress supporters widely shared photographs and videos of Revanth Reddy playing football and posing with Argentine football legend Lionel Messi ahead of the World Cup final.

The criticism comes after the Telangana government reportedly permitted bars to remain open until the early hours of the morning to allow football fans to watch the FIFA World Cup final.

Opposition leaders and social media users further alleged that Revanth Reddy’s team instructed bars to display a promotional video featuring the Chief Minister with Messi before the match and encouraged supporters to record and circulate videos of the screening.

Following Argentina’s loss, political rivals mocked the publicity exercise, claiming the campaign had backfired. Several social media posts also used the phrase “iron leg” while criticizing the Chief Minister, though these remarks remain political opinions expressed by opponents.

Neither the Telangana government nor the Chief Minister’s Office has officially responded to the allegations. The claims regarding the alleged instructions to bars have not been independently verified.
