Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty on Saturday said that the overall crime rate has increased by 8 percent in this year.
Speaking at the Annual Press Conference held at the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate office, Mohanty revealed that 29,156 FIRs have been registered in Cyberabad this year.
About 3,432 individuals have been sentenced and 5,342 cybercrime cases have been reported, resulting in a loss of Rs 232 crores. However, Rs 46 crores have been recovered.
The Commissioner said that 277 drug cases have been registered, leading to the arrest of 567 individuals. The Preventive Detection (PD) Act has been invoked against the accused in these cases.
At least 6,676 kgs of ganja was seized, and drugs worth Rs 27 crores were confiscated.
Regarding the traffic-related offences, the CP said 52,124 cases of drunken driving have been reported and 24,318 driving licenses have been suspended for violating traffic rules. A total of 2,587 people were arrested, with PD Act charges filed against 52 individuals.
Speaking on the ongoing legal cases, he said that the MLAs poaching case is presently in the Supreme Court, and investigation will continue in the attempt to murder case of former Minister Srinivas Goud.
The crime statistics for the year include 105 murders, 61 chain snatchings, 62 robberies, 7 dacoities, 2,353 thefts, 616 kidnappings, 259 cases of rape, 6,777 frauds and 116 assassination attempts.
Mohanty said permission was sought for New Year celebrations and added that strict action would be taken if celebrations were held without approval.
He made it clear that legal measures would follow for drunk driving.
