Pelican signals for safe road crossing on busy city centres
Citizens go out on daily basis according to their requirements in city and most of them are facing troubles to cross the roads from one side to other, injuries sometimes while crossing roads.
Hyderabad: As part of providing basic infrastructure, GHMC is providing pelican signals in city for smooth and safe crossing on busy roads by the citizens.
Citizens go out on daily basis according to their requirements in city and most of them are facing troubles to cross the roads from one side to other, injuries sometimes while crossing roads.
Pelican signals are manually-controlled signals, which on pressing the button give the pedestrian a window of 15 seconds to cross the road safely by turning the signal to red.
Keeping in view of heavy vehicular traffic in the city, to regulate the traffic so far GHMC provided 334 traffic signals as per the recommendations made by the traffic police.
Similarly, in order to avoid accidents and to provide safe crossing for the citizens, GHMC is giving priority in installing pelican signals at schools, colleges, hospitals and other busy roads.
By using advanced technology, GHMC is providing pelican signals and the citizens while crossing roads, just by pressing button the signals would be on, the movement of vehicles comes to halt and the citizens can cross the roads safely.
So far GHMC installed 68 signals out of 94 proposed and the remaining installed as soon as the proposal received from the traffic police.
