Pilots fall asleep while flying; miss landing

In a bizarre incident, two Ethiopian Airlines pilots fell asleep while flying a flight and missed their landing. The incident took place on Monday, when the flight was going from Sudan’s Khartoum to Ethiopia capital Addis Ababa.

Aviation Herald reported that the Air Traffic Control (ATC) raised an alert when flight ET343 approached the airport but did not start the descent. The Boeing 737’s autopilot system kept the plane cruising at 37,000 feet even as the pilots fell asleep. NDTV reported.

Their sleep broke only after the autopilot disconnected that triggered an alarm. Luckily the plane landed safely and no one was harmed.
