Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi, reacting to controversial statements on Prophet Mohammad made by some BJP functionaries said Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted only when there was a foreign backlash.

“…20 crore Indian Muslims’ religious beliefs were insulted. Rather than addressing their concerns, Modi et al were more afraid of a foreign backlash. Very unfortunate,” he added.
During a TV debate, on the ongoing Gyanvspi mosque row, BJP National Spokesperson Nupur Sharma made objectionable remarks against Prophet Muhammad and Delhi’s BJP media in-charge Naveen Kumar Jindal expressed views against minorities on social media.
In a first of its kind stringent action against party’s prominent faces since BJP came to power in 2014, the saffron party expelled the two party spokespersons on Sunday for making derogatory remarks against the Prophet and the Muslim community.
It suspended Nupur Sharma, one of its national spokespersons, from the party’s primary membership for her anti-Islam remarks during a television debate May-end.
The party’s Delhi unit also expelled Naveen Kumar Jindal, who heads the party’s media unit in the national capital for his inflammatory tweets.
Owaisi during a TV appearance on Monday also demanded Sharma’s arrest over her statement.
Sharma faced major backlash on social media. She was also concerned about her residential address being exposed after a letter of her removal from the saffron party went viral on social media.
