Renowned poet Munawwar Rana passes away after a heart attack

Munawwar Rana was undergoing treatment at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow. He was admitted there on January 9 due to deteriorating health.
Munawwar Rana took his last breath at the age of 71. Apart from various issues related to the kidneys and heart, he was also battling throat cancer.
Last year, Munawwar Rana was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Lucknow due to health complications. His condition had worsened to the extent that he had to be put on a ventilator.
Munawwar Rana’s daughter and Samajwadi Party leader Sumayya Rana revealed that her father’s health had been deteriorating over the past two to three days.
This time, about 15 days ago, when his health deteriorated, he was initially taken to Medanta Hospital, followed by admission to Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences.
His son, Tabrez Rana, confirmed that Munawwar Rana took his last breath at eleven o’clock on the night of January 14. The funeral prayers and burial will take place on Monday.
In addition to his wife, Munawwar Rana is survived by four daughters and one son.
Munawwar Rana gained worldwide recognition through his poetry, leaving an indelible mark in almost every poetic gathering. He was often honored as a leading figure in the world of Urdu poetry.
In addition to being a successful poet, he was also a skilled prose writer. His last collection of poetry is titled ‘Muhajir Nama.’
He was a brave and courageous individual, and he had returned the National Award from the Sahitya Akademi on Muslim issues. He was appointed as the Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Urdu Academy but resigned from the post shortly afterward. His poetry held a sacred place for the Mother, for which he received much appreciation.
