Hyderabad: Congress leader Siricilla Rajaiah assumed charge as the Chairman of Telangana State Finance Commission here on Sunday.

Sankepalli Sudhir Reddy, Ramesh Mudiraj and Nehru Nayak also took charge as the Commission Members. Finance Commission Secretary Smitha Sabharwal was also present in the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajaiah said that when Rajiv Gandhi was the prime minister, the finance commissions were instituted to strengthen the Gram panchayats financially across the country.

He alleged that the previous BRS government had weakened the Finance Commission in Telangana, and the gram panchayats and municipalities were struggling due to lack of funds.

Rajaiah stated that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has revived the Finance Commission which had fallen into a corner and thanked the Chief Minister for putting a lot of trust in him and giving a responsibility.
