Hyderabad: BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha has slammed Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani for opposing a proposal to give menstrual leave to women employees during menstruation.

She said the Union minister’s attitude was disheartening and added that the Union Minister had ignored the pain of women.

MLC Kavitha posted on “X” expressing dissatisfaction over Union Minister Smriti Irani’s remarks that women employees need not be given paid leave during menstruation.

“It is sad that the Union Minister has dismissed the struggles of menstruation in the Rajya Sabha and it is outrageous that Smriti Irani is ignoring the sufferings of women. Menstruation is not an option. It is a natural biological process. Refusing paid leave is like ignoring the suffering that countless women are going through. The lack of sympathy for the practical challenges faced by women is staggering. It is time to bridge the gap between policy making and reality,” MLC Kavitha informed.

She also thanked the doctors and nurses, who treated KCR and the hospital staff for their support in every possible way.
