Telangana Congress lodges complaint with Election Commission against CM KCR

TPCC has filed a complaint with Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar against Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Harish Rao for making adverse comments about the National Congress and TPCC’s Manifesto.

Hyderabad: Senior Vice President of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), G Niranjan, filed a complaint with Rajiv Kumar, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of the Election Commission of India (ECI), against Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and Harish Rao for making adverse comments about the National Congress.

In a letter addressed to the CEC of ECI, a copy of which was released to the media, Niranjan expressed his concern that KCR, during a public meeting in Parakala, Warangal District on November 17, 2023, made derogatory comments against the Congress party, referring to it as the “Dhokebhaj party” (cheater party).

Niranjan emphasized that the Congress is the oldest party globally, which played a crucial role in the country’s independence and granted statehood to Telangana. He deemed it unfortunate that, in his position as Chief Minister, KCR used abusive language against the Congress party, violating the model code of conduct.

The complaint also highlighted another instance where T Harish Rao, Minister for Finance & Health, referred to the Congress party’s manifesto as the “420 Manifesto,” which Niranjan argued is also against the model code of conduct.

The letter cited relevant sections from the Compendium of Instructions on Model Code of Conduct, emphasizing that political parties should not aggravate existing differences or create mutual hatred, and other parties or their workers should not be criticized based on unverified allegations or distortions.

Press clippings from Deccan Chronicle and Andhra Prabha dated November 18, 2023, were attached to the complaint. Niranjan concluded the letter by providing a transcription of KCR’s statements during the Parakala meeting, expressing his concern about the derogatory remarks made against the Congress party.
