Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police Ravi Gupta released the State Crime Report for the year 2022 on Tuesday.

The comprehensive report, titled “Crime in Telangana-2022,” was compiled under the supervision of Mahesh M. Bhagwat, IPS, Additional Director General of Police (CID), a statement here said.

The State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB), established under the Crime Investigation Department (CID), has played a pivotal role in compiling and maintaining crime-related information over the years. The SCRB serves as a repository for crime statistics, aiding investigations in linking crimes to their perpetrators.

This publication marks the first such attempt by the SCRB, CID Telangana, since the formation of the state in 2014. The report aims to be a valuable resource for law enforcement authorities, policymakers, administrators, researchers, the media, NGOs, and the general public, fostering informed discussions on matters of public safety.

A comparative analysis with the previous year revealed notable increases in certain crime categories in 2022. Cybercrime witnessed a surge of 48.47 per cent, economic offenses increased by 41.37 per cent, and crimes related to cheating rose by 43.30 per cent.

Telangana Police have responded by placing special emphasis on the investigation and prosecution of these offenses, utilizing scientific tools, forensic science, and cyber technology to secure convictions.

The installation of 1,74,205 CCTV cameras in 2022 brought the total number of functioning cameras in Telangana to 10,25,849. This initiative resulted in the detection of 18,234 cases during the year. Conventional crime was overshadowed by the dominance of cybercrime and white-collar offenses.

In a noteworthy achievement, the Crime in India 2022 report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) ranked Hyderabad as the third safest metro police in India, following Kolkata and Pune, with the least number of cognizable offenses per lakh population.

The book release ceremony was attended by prominent officials, including Sikha Goel, ADG Women Safety Wing, Abhilasha Bisht, ADG Coordination, Soumya Mishra, ADG Personal, Sanjay Jain, ADG Law and Order, and others.

The efforts of individuals involved in bringing out this publication were duly appreciated.
