Telangana Marks World Bicycle Day with Massive Participation in Fit India Sundays on Cycle
The flagship event, organized by the Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG) under the Department of Sports, was held at the Gachibowli Practice Stadium in Hyderabad. Similar activities were conducted at hundreds of locations across Telangana, promoting fitness, environmental awareness, and community participation.

Hyderabad: Telangana witnessed an overwhelming response to the special edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle as thousands of citizens, athletes, students, and fitness enthusiasts participated in World Bicycle Day celebrations across the state on Sunday.
The flagship event, organized by the Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG) under the Department of Sports, was held at the Gachibowli Practice Stadium in Hyderabad. Similar activities were conducted at hundreds of locations across Telangana, promoting fitness, environmental awareness, and community participation.
The cycle rally was flagged off by Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, who attended as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor highlighted the importance of cycling as a sustainable mode of transport that contributes to both public health and environmental conservation. He urged citizens to adopt cycling as a regular habit in line with the objectives of the Fit India Movement.
Several prominent dignitaries attended the event, including Minister for ITE&C, Industries and Commerce Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Minister for Youth Services, Sports, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Vakiti Srihari, Sports Advisor and Special Representative to the Government in New Delhi A.P. Jithender Reddy, Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Sports Authority of Telangana Chairman Shivasena Reddy, and SATG Vice Chairman and Managing Director Dr. A. Sonibala Devi.
Participants began arriving at the venue as early as 5:30 a.m. and were welcomed with event T-shirts. A lively Zumba warm-up session energized the crowd before the cycle rally commenced. Following the rally, participants were awarded commemorative medals in recognition of their commitment to fitness and healthy living. The event concluded with a community breakfast.

The celebrations formed part of the nationwide Fit India Movement, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 29, 2019, to encourage citizens to make fitness an integral part of their daily lives. The Sundays on Cycle initiative has since evolved into a major national movement, engaging more than 30 lakh cycling enthusiasts and reaching over seven crore people through ground-level activities and public outreach programs.
Sunday’s event attracted participation from a diverse range of organizations, including CRPF, Indian Air Force, CISF, ITBP, CGDA, ESIC, police departments, sports academies, Khelo India Centres, educational institutions, cycling clubs, and software companies.
In addition to cycling, the programme featured wellness activities such as yoga, Zumba, and rope skipping, reflecting the campaign’s inclusive approach to fitness for people of all age groups.
The large-scale participation showcased Telangana’s growing sporting culture and reinforced the spirit of Jan Bhagidari (public participation), emphasizing the collective commitment toward building a healthier, greener, and fitter India.
