Hyderabad: Communal tension erupted in Jainoor Mandal of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, Telangana, following a sexual assault case involving an auto rickshaw driver.
The driver, identified as Makhdoom, allegedly assaulted a tribal woman, sparking a series of violent attacks on properties belonging to the Muslim community.
Videos on social media show a mob attacking shops and properties in Jainoor, with no visible presence of local law enforcement.
Despite a bandh call issued in protest, violence intensified when the mob targeted homes, vehicles, commercial establishments, and even a mosque. The attacks continued for three hours, resulting in extensive damage and looting.
Locals claim that the violence was supported by some local right-wing leaders. Although reinforcements were sent to the area, the police’s response was criticized for being ineffective. The minority community in Jainoor is estimated to have suffered financial losses of 20 to 25 crore rupees, with businesses and shops completely destroyed.
The situation remains tense as senior police officials from the state arrive to oversee the response and restore order.
