Telangana receives 16 pc excess rainfalls in 2022-23
A statement here on Friday said, the Ground Water Department monitored water levels during June-2022 through 1362 Piezometers (monitoring stations) covering all mandals from 33 districts of Telangana State.
Hyderabad: During the water year 2022-23 (up to June 30), the Telangana State received rainfall of 151 mm against 129 mm of normal rainfall and it ranges from 57 mm (Jogulamba (Gadwal) Dist) to 234 mm (Mulugu Dist) and thus there was a 16 per cent excess rainfall during this period as compared to normal annual rainfall.
A statement here on Friday said, the Ground Water Department monitored water levels during June-2022 through 1362 Piezometers (monitoring stations) covering all mandals from 33 districts of Telangana State.
Fifteen districts– Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Bhupalpally, Rangareddy, Medchal, Mulugu, Yadadri, Nagarkurnool, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Bhadradri, Karimnagar, Mahabubabad, Wanaparthy and Jangaon districts received excess rainfall (20 per cent to 71 per cent), remaining sixteen districts received Normal rainfall (-18 per cent to 18 per cent) and two districts received deficient rainfall (-20 per cent to -22 per cent).
Average groundwater levels in the State during June-2022 is 8.66 meters below ground level (m bgl) and it varies from 5.30 m bgl (Jagityal) to 15.03 m bgl (Medak). Out of 33 districts in 25 districts average water levels varying between 5-10 m bgl, in 7 districts it is between 10-15 mbgl and remaining one district it was >15 mbgl.
A net average fall of 0.14 m in groundwater levels was observed during June-2022 as compared to June-2021 and rise was observed in 14 districts (0.01 m Jagityal to 1.78 m in Peddapalli) and fall in the remaining 19 districts (0.01 Mulugu to 1.66 in Hyderabad).
A net average rise of 0.35 m in groundwater levels was observed during June-2022 as compared to May-2022 and rise was observed in 22 districts (0.06 m Narayanpet to 3.15 m in Warangal) and fall is observed in the remaining 11 Districts, the statement added.
