TSRTC proposed to Increase Bus Fares: Puvvada Ajay Kumar

Speaking to press persons after the meeting the Minister along with the Chairman, Managing director and others, said that the price proposals were prepared last month and submitted to the Chief Minister.

Hyderabad: Keeping in view that the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is incurring the losses and it is accumulating every year because of increase in diesel and other charges by over 25 per cent, the Corporation has decided to increase the bus charges and the proposal to this effect has been sent to the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for his approval, said the Minister for Transport, Puvvada Ajay Kumar.

The High Level Meeting of the TSRTC consisting of Chairman, Baji Reddy Goverdhan, Managing Director V.C. Sajjanar and other officials held today. In this meeting it has been decided to increase 25 paise per kilometer on ordinary buses and 30 paise for Express and all other services. However, the final decision will be taken by the Chief Minister and as soon as the approval received fares will be increased.

Speaking to press persons after the meeting the Minister along with the Chairman, Managing director and others, said that the price proposals were prepared last month and submitted to the Chief Minister.

Chief Minister has pointed out that operating buses on long distance routes would bring profits, they said 14 hundred buses have been completely become nonfunctional, this need to be replaced by new one. The replacement molly will be by the Electric buses. 

Answering to the question, the Managing Director said that there is no proposal to close any bus depot including in Hyderabad city, nor the Corporation plan to reduce the staff. He said, all sort of measures are being taken to reduce the losses of the Corporation, he said.

The government has given the funds of Rs. 1600 crore as earmarked in the budget to the TSRTC. The induction of electric buses in the fleet will also reduce the expenditure on purchasing diesel, he said about 6.8 lakh litres of diesel is being utilized by the Corporation every day, the increase of diesel prices has put heavy burden on the Corporation which is one of the major reason for accumulation of losses, he said.
