US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar introduces House resolution against India; know what it is all about

Ilhan Omar, the Democratic Congresswoman from Minnesota has introduced a resolution in the US House of Representatives condemning India for human rights violations. She highlighted human rights violations targeting Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Dalits, Adivasis and “other religious and cultural minorities”.

The resolution was co-sponsored by Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib, Jim McGovern and Juan Vargas. In the resolution, the congresswomen urged the US Secretary of State to designate India as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’. Hindustan Times reported.

The resolution was introduced in the House of Representatives on Tuesday and has been sent to the House Foreign Affairs Committee for necessary action.

Omar is a Somali-American. She expressed “grave concern about the worsening treatment of religious minorities in India”.
