Washington: The United States will work with Egypt and Qatar to reimplement the truce between Israel and Hamas, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a press conference.
“We’re going to continue to work with Israel and Egypt and Qatar on efforts to reimplement the pause,” Austin said on Friday.
Israel and Hamas agreed to extend the humanitarian truce between both parties this week.
According to a senior US administration official, a further displacement of Gaza residents in the south would be beyond disruptive and beyond the capacity of any humanitarian network to support.
On Monday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said Israel Defense Forces (IDF) operation in the Gaza Strip will be more intense after the end of the ceasefire with Hamas and will take place throughout the Palestinian enclave.
The minister added that Hamas will use the ceasefire to regroup and rest its forces, so the IDF will initially use air forces and artillery before resuming ground operations.
The conflict has so far resulted in the deaths of an estimated 1,300 people in Israel and over 16,000 in the Gaza Strip.
