Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi announced himself with his first significant innings in international cricket, smashing 50 runs from just 19 balls.

His innings included:

Sooryavanshi reached his half-century in only 18 balls before being caught at third man off Richard Ngarava a ball later.

Earlier this month, his much-hyped international debut in England did not go as planned, but he made full use of his familiarity with the Harare venue, where he had scored a memorable 175 off 80 balls in the Under-19 World Cup final earlier this year.

While Abhishek Sharma struggled for 1 off 8 balls, Sooryavanshi attacked the Zimbabwe bowlers from the start.

He struck two spectacular sixes off Richard Ngarava in the second over of the chase. One was a one-legged pull over deep square leg, while the other sailed over mid-off after he created room.

He also hammered Blessing Muzarabani for a 90-metre six straight down the ground in the fifth over.

Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer Complete Comfortable Chase

After Sooryavanshi’s dismissal, Ishan Kishan contributed 35 off 24 balls, while captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 28 off 24 balls.

India comfortably reached the target of 126 in 13.2 overs, sealing a seven-wicket victory.

The win was also India’s first under new captain Shreyas Iyer, who had endured six losses during his first assignment in Ireland and England.

Mayank Yadav Shines on International Return

Earlier, fast bowler Mayank Yadav enjoyed a successful return to international cricket in his first appearance for India since October 2024.

He struck with the very first ball of the match, dismissing opener Brian Bennett (0) with a hard-length delivery that straightened slightly and found the outside edge.

Although the on-field umpire did not detect the edge, India successfully overturned the decision using the Decision Review System (DRS).

Mayank, who underwent surgery last year following a stress fracture, consistently bowled at speeds of more than 145 kmph.

He claimed his second wicket when Dion Myers (6) mistimed a pull shot in the fifth over.

Zimbabwe Finish on 125/7

India captain Shreyas Iyer, not fully familiar with the conditions, chose to field first after winning the toss.

Zimbabwe struggled from the beginning and were reduced to 26/3 by the end of the powerplay.

Captain Sikandar Raza attempted to attack Shivam Dube but was caught at deep square leg, leaving Zimbabwe at 32/4 in the eighth over.
