Hyderabad: At least twenty people were injured after a stampede broke out at Gymkhana grounds after cricket fans jostled to purchase tickets for the third T20I match between India and Australia that will take place in Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on September 25.
A huge crowd had come to the Gymkhana grounds to get their hands on tickets. But as the excited fans thronged counters selling tickets causing law and order, the situation soon turned out of control resulting in a stampede. Police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the massive crowd.
According to sources, twenty people were injured in the stampede. Paytm on Thursday opened three counters at the Gymkhana grounds in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana state to sell tickets for the India-Australia match on 25th Sept. Nearly 30,000 people were waiting in long lines for only 3,000 tickets for Sunday’s match. Few cricket fans stood in the queue since wee hours. Hindustan Times reported.
India is hosting Australia in a three-match T20 series in preparation for the T20 World Cup in Australia next month.
