Vijaya Dairy Revises Milk Prices in Telangana: Boost for Buffalo Farmers, Blow for Cow Milk Suppliers

The Telangana Dairy Development Federation, popularly known as Vijaya Dairy, has announced a significant revision in milk procurement prices across the state, triggering mixed reactions among dairy farmers.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Dairy Development Federation, popularly known as Vijaya Dairy, has announced a significant revision in milk procurement prices across the state, triggering mixed reactions among dairy farmers.

The revised prices came into effect from April 1, with buffalo milk prices witnessing an increase, while cow milk prices have been slashed, leaving many cow milk suppliers disappointed.

According to the latest update:

  • Buffalo milk with 7% butterfat content will now be purchased at Rs 59.50 per litre, up from the earlier Rs 56.
  • Buffalo milk with 10% butterfat will now fetch Rs 84.60 per litre, up from Rs 80.
  • Conversely, cow milk with 3% butterfat has seen a reduction from Rs 40 to Rs 36.50 per kg.

Vijaya Dairy, which collects lakhs of litres of milk daily from thousands of farmers, stated that the changes were made to reflect market conditions and ensure better viability.

However, while the hike in buffalo milk prices has been welcomed by the respective farmers, cow milk suppliers have expressed concern over the cut, fearing it may affect their income and sustainability.

The revised pricing policy is expected to have a broader impact on the rural dairy economy, especially in regions where cow milk production dominates.
