WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has recently introduced a new feature called “phone number privacy” for Android and iOS users. This feature is currently in beta and can be accessed through the latest update. Once users install the beta update, they will find a new option called “phone number privacy” in the community announcement group info section.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, the “phone number privacy” feature allows WhatsApp users to protect their privacy by hiding their phone numbers within WhatsApp communities. By enabling this feature, users can ensure that their phone numbers are only visible to community administrators and individuals who have saved their contact information. It also allows users to hide their full phone numbers from other participants in the conversation.
However, it’s important to note that the phone number privacy feature only applies to community members, as the phone number of the community admin will always remain visible.
Currently, this new feature is available to select beta users who have installed the latest WhatsApp updates for Android and iOS. The rollout of this feature is expected to reach a wider audience in the coming days.
In addition to this privacy feature, WhatsApp has also rolled out a modified interface for iOS users. As per WABetaInfo, iOS users can now see a translucent tab bar and navigation bar in WhatsApp version 23.13.80. While the official changelog on the App Store doesn’t mention anything about the interface changes, the report confirms that it is being widely rolled out to users on the stable release.
To check if the translucent bar feature is available to you, simply update the WhatsApp app on your iPhone from the App Store. You may need to restart the app to activate the changes. Open any section of the app to see if the translucent effect is present.
