HYDRAA Issues Citywide Fire Safety Alert, Orders Inspections and Action Against Violations

HYDRAA orders citywide fire safety inspections in Hyderabad, warns of sealing buildings and power disconnection for violations, and asks public to report fire hazards to 9000113667.

The HYDRAA has stepped up its focus on fire safety across Hyderabad, ordering intensive inspections and warning of strict action, including sealing of premises, if safety norms are violated. The move comes in the wake of recent fire incidents in the city, prompting authorities to tighten enforcement to prevent future disasters.

HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath has directed officials to ensure that fire safety rules are strictly implemented in commercial complexes, shops, furniture stores, textile outlets, and residential areas, with zero tolerance for negligence.

HYDRAA Commissioner Orders Inspections Across Hyderabad

As part of the intensified drive, the HYDRAA Commissioner held a meeting with officials from GHMC, Fire Services, and the Electricity Department to review the fire safety action plan. Officers were instructed to conduct inspections across all city zones and identify buildings that fail to meet mandatory fire safety standards.

Authorities have been told that:

  • Premises violating fire safety norms will be sealed
  • Electricity supply will be disconnected immediately where serious risks are found
  • Notices will be pasted declaring buildings unsafe due to lack of fire safety

Public Asked to Report Fire Hazards

HYDRAA has appealed to the public to actively report any potential fire hazards in their surroundings. Citizens can contact the HYDRAA Control Room at 9000113667 to share information.

Residents have been asked to:

  • Report locations with high fire risk
  • Share exact location details
  • Send photos and videos of unsafe conditions

Officials assured that complainants’ identities will be kept confidential.

Why Fire Safety Enforcement Is Being Tightened

The Commissioner noted that over 36 fire accidents were reported in Hyderabad last year, averaging three incidents per month. Many of these incidents were linked to unsafe storage practices and blocked escape routes, leading to avoidable loss of life and property.

A recent incident at a furniture shop cellar highlighted the dangers of:

  • Overstocking inflammable materials
  • Using cellars as living spaces
  • Blocking staircases and exits

Key Fire Safety Guidelines Issued

HYDRAA has issued clear instructions that must be followed by businesses and property owners:

  • Do not store goods in staircases, corridors, or cellars
  • Use cellars only for vehicle parking, not for storage or accommodation
  • Do not store flammable or explosive materials in basements
  • No residential use in commercial buildings or cellars
  • Keep stairways clear and unlocked from cellar to terrace
  • Ensure firefighting equipment is functional at all times
  • Train staff on fire safety equipment usage
  • Maintain clear exit routes for quick evacuation
  • Install and maintain automatic fire sprinkler systems

Aim Is to Reduce Fire Accidents in Hyderabad

HYDRAA officials stressed that fire safety is a shared responsibility and urged citizens, shop owners, and building managers to cooperate. The authority’s primary goal, officials said, is to reduce fire accidents and protect lives across Hyderabad.

The HYDRAA fire safety inspection drive in Hyderabad is expected to continue in the coming days, with authorities warning that strict enforcement will be carried out without exceptions.
