Devadula Lift Irrigation Review

The Deputy Chief Minister recalled that three days ago, all pumps at the Sammakka Barrage backwaters under the Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme were switched on to lift water to full capacity.

He said he personally stayed there and reviewed the programme to fill 22 reservoirs covering nearly 12 districts and 17 Assembly constituencies.

Government Determined to Complete the Project

Bhatti Vikramarka said the Congress government’s objective is to complete the Sitarama Project on the Godavari River in the Telangana region as early as possible and ensure water reaches the last ayacut.

He said people had given power to the Congress after witnessing the alleged misdeeds of the previous government.

According to the Deputy Chief Minister, soon after assuming office, the entire Cabinet conducted an extensive review of the irrigation projects.

Since a substantial amount had already been spent, the Cabinet decided that stopping the project would not be appropriate and resolved to continue and complete it.

Bhatti Vikramarka said the government is rectifying deficiencies, including:

  • Absence of distributary canals
  • Reservoir capacity issues

He said:

  • Rajiv Canal is being linked with the Sagar Canal.
  • Link canals and tunnels are being developed to fill the Wyra and Paleru reservoirs.
  • Works are being accelerated to take water up to Sathupalli.

He added that a monthly calendar has been prepared for completing the works and that periodic reviews are being conducted to ensure timely completion.

‘Not Even a Single Rupee Will Be Misused’

Bhatti Vikramarka said:

“This is the People’s government. Not even a single rupee will be misused. We will carry forward the works already executed, prioritize them, and complete them as early as possible.”

He reiterated that the government would utilise the maximum possible water from the project, located at the tail-end of the Godavari River, and fulfil the long-cherished aspirations of the farmers of the district.
