Hyderabad Railway Police Arrest Interstate Ganja Peddler, Seize 16.92 Kg Ganja

GRP Hyderabad and RPF Hyderabad arrested an interstate ganja peddler and seized 16.92 kg of ganja worth Rs. 8.46 lakh at Hyderabad Railway Station. Three accused are absconding.

Hyderabad: The Government Railway Police (GRP), Hyderabad, along with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Hyderabad, apprehended an interstate ganja peddler and seized 16.92 kilograms of ganja worth Rs. 8,46,000 while it was allegedly being transported from Visakhapatnam to New Delhi via Hyderabad. The accused, Akash Singh (20), was arrested on July 29, 2026, after being intercepted at Hyderabad Railway Station. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, while three other accused are absconding. The investigation is ongoing.

Police Nab Suspect During Checking at Hyderabad Railway Station

According to the press note, on July 29, 2026, at 09:30 hours, Sri B. Praveen Kumar, IRP, Hyderabad, along with Sri E. Srinivas, SIRP, Hyderabad, and Sri Naveen, SI/RPF, Hyderabad, were conducting a general check at Hyderabad Railway Station.

The police team noticed two persons behaving suspiciously near the entrance gate of Platform No. 4.

On seeing the police party, one person escaped, while another person carrying two luggage bags was apprehended.

The arrested person was identified as:

  • Name: Akash Singh
  • Father’s Name: Shiv Shankar Singh
  • Age: 20 years
  • Occupation: Labour
  • Resident: Nahora, Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh

Accused Allegedly Recruited to Transport Ganja

According to the police, during interrogation, Akash Singh disclosed that while doing a saree business in New Delhi, he came into contact with Jafar, who allegedly worked as a ganja peddler.

Police stated that Jafar allegedly offered him Rs. 15,000 per trip to transport ganja from Visakhapatnam to New Delhi, and Akash accepted the offer.

According to the statement given by the accused to police:

  • On July 24, 2026, Jafar instructed him to travel to Visakhapatnam to collect the contraband and deliver it to Miya in Nangloi, New Delhi.
  • On July 26, 2026, Akash travelled to Visakhapatnam and met Jafar.
  • On July 28, 2026, Jafar introduced him to Manish, who allegedly handed over two college bags containing about 16 kilograms of ganja.
  • Akash and Manish then boarded the Godavari Express at Visakhapatnam Railway Station and reached Hyderabad Railway Station on the morning of July 29, 2026.

Police said that while the two were on Platform No. 4, the police team intercepted them. One person escaped, while Akash was detained and questioned.

According to police, Akash voluntarily confessed during interrogation.

16.92 Kg Ganja Worth Rs. 8.46 Lakh Seized

Police seized the following property from the accused:

  • One blue-colour college bag containing 8 packets
  • One olive green-colour college bag containing 6 packets
  • Total: 14 packets containing 16.92 kilograms of ganja
  • Estimated value: Rs. 8,46,000
  • One VIVO mobile phone

Police registered a case and formally arrested the accused on July 29, 2026, at 13:00 hours.

  • Sri K. Ramesh Naidu, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Railways and Road Safety, Telangana, Hyderabad

According to the press note, Sri K. Ramesh Naidu, IPS, appreciated the officers and personnel of GRP Hyderabad and stated that they would be suitably rewarded.

The Government Railway Police, Hyderabad, and RPF Hyderabad arrested Akash Singh (20) in Crime No. 112/2026 after seizing 16.92 kilograms of ganja worth Rs. 8,46,000 at Hyderabad Railway Station on July 29, 2026. The narcotics were allegedly being transported from Visakhapatnam to New Delhi via Hyderabad. Police have booked the case under the NDPS Act, while Jafar, Miya, and Manish remain absconding. Further investigation is in progress.
