KTR’s Warning Prompts Action as Kalwakurthi Lift Irrigation Project Pumps Are Switched On

BRS leaders alleged that despite significant water availability in the Krishna River, pumps at the Kalwakurthi and Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Projects had not been operated for nearly a week. They claimed the delay was causing hardship to people in Mahabubnagar due to shortages of drinking and irrigation water.
Former ministers Singireddy Niranjan Reddy and Sabita Indra Reddy, along with other BRS leaders from Palamuru and Rangareddy districts, had issued an ultimatum to the government. They warned that if the pumps were not switched on by August 11, they would march to the Narlapur Pump House under the leadership of BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR).

According to the BRS, within an hour of the warning, irrigation officials switched on motors at the Elluru, Jonnalaboguda and Gudipalli pump houses under the Kalwakurthi Lift Irrigation Project.
However, BRS leaders continue to demand that the pumps of the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project also be operated and that water be released for irrigation and drinking purposes.
The development has triggered a political confrontation between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS. BRS leaders questioned why the government had failed to operate the pumps despite water availability and alleged that the administration acted only after pressure from the opposition.
Farmers and residents in the affected districts are now awaiting further action on the Palamuru-Rangareddy project, while the issue has become another point of contention between the Congress government and the BRS.
