AP: Five die as van collides with lorry

In a ghastly road accident, five people died and six injured when their Toofan van collided with a lorry on the Peluru-Kalakka highway at Matampalli village, at the crossroads in KV Palli mandal in Annamayya district in AP, in the early hours of Friday.

Sub-inspector Lokesh said a group of people belonging to Belgaum in Karnataka state were on pilgrimage. After visiting the hill shrine of Srisailam, they went to another hill shrine, Tirumala. While going back to Belgaum, their van collided with a lorry, killing Hanumanthu (40), Ambika (14), Sobha (34) Mananda (32) and van driver Hanumanta (40).


The injured were shifted to the government general hospital in Peleru. Three of the injured were later shifted to the Ruia hospital in Tirupati as their condition turned out to be critical.


The police registered a case and shifted the bodies to the GGH for postmortem.
