The news and photos of a one-eyed baby born in Iraq went viral on social media. According to Iraqi media, a one-eyed baby was born in a strange way on Friday in a hospital in Dhi Qar governorate.
“Al-Sumaria News” said with reference to the health sources of Dhi Qar that for the first time, a child with one eye was born in Al Rifa’i Hospital, located in the north of the center of Dhi Qar Governorate.
This condition is very rare and causes death in newborns.
According to local media, a doctor at Al-Rifai General Hospital revealed that the newborn died immediately after birth.
The pictures of the child were widely shared by activists on social networking websites. The photos show that one eye is in the middle of the child’s face.
A doctor at the hospital explained that this rare condition is the result of blood incompatibility between the mother and father or the presence of a germ in the mother’s womb during pregnancy.
The doctor said that this condition can also occur when the baby’s brain tissue is deficient.
