During today’s hearing in the Supreme Court on the petition filed by Maulana Arshad Madani, the Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind objected to the affidavit filed by the UP government and sought three days time to respond.
New Delhi: During today’s hearing in the Supreme Court on the petition filed by the President of Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind, Maulana Arshad Madani seeking directions to the Uttar Pradesh authorities to ensure that no further demolitions of properties are carried out in the State without following due process, the Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind objected to an affidavit filed by the UP government. The Muslim body sought three days time to respond, which was granted by the court.
The hearing has been deferred for June 29. On the request made by Senior Advocate Nitya Ramakrishnan, appearing for the petitioners, seeking more time to reply to the UP government affidavit, a vacation bench of justices CT Ravikumar and Sudhanshu Dhulia adjourned the matter.
Uttar Pradesh Government has informed the Supreme Court that recent demolitions of properties carried out in the state were done following due process & were in no way related to taking action against persons accused of rioting. Govt has taken action against rioters as per a different set of statutes, the UP govt stated. ANI reported.
Advocate Nitya Ramakrishnan told justice CT Ravi Kumar and Justice Sudhanshu Dholia of the vacation bench of the Supreme Court that he objected to the affidavit filed by the UP government. Therefore, he wants to file a reply to the affidavit.
