Hyderabad: In response to growing waste management challenges, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has proposed the establishment of more dump yards around Hyderabad.
At a review meeting held on Saturday, he emphasized the need to set up these facilities away from populated areas. The Chief Minister aims to take actions that do not jeopardize public health, a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office said.
He said that currently, Hyderabad has only one dump yard located in Jawahar Nagar, where approximately 8 thousand tons of garbage are transported daily. The Chief Minister acknowledged the environmental and health concerns raised by the residents due to air pollution and unpleasant odours surrounding the existing dump yard.
To address these issues, government officials have inspected potential dump yard sites in Shamshabad, away from the city towards Medak.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed his concern for public health and suggested the installation of 15 MW electricity generation facilities using the garbage collected.
He urged coordination with TSSPDCL (Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited) to explore the possibility of recycling as much garbage as possible, assuring full government support and cooperation.
