Hyderabad: The Congress party has defended the State government’s decision to deny permission for the conduct of the Hyderabad E-Prix event in Hyderabad.

Formula E on Saturday announced the Season 10 race calendar with the cancellation of the Hyderabad race (Round 4) scheduled for February 10 this year.

Congress leader Niranjan has expressed happiness at the decision of cancelling Hyderabad E-Prix event and said that it would give a big relief to the people.

Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan here, Congress leader Niranjan alleged that the previous BRS government had taken a foolish decision by allowing Formula E races which caused many traffic problems in Hyderabad and the race was of no use to the people.

Niranjan found fault with the statement of BRS working president KT Rama Rao who said that the investments will come from these races and said that KTR was having a lack of knowledge with regard to the investments.

Referring to separate polls for two MLC seats in Telangana, the Congress leader said that the Election Commission has made it clear that even though two seats are vacant under the MLC quota in Telangana, the elections will be held separately.

The same thing happened in Uttar Pradesh in the past. The elections are now being held for the MLC by-election, not a general election. The MLC elections will be held as per the rules of the regulations of the Election Commission of lndia, he added.
