Farmers declared crop holiday due to wrong policies of YSRCP govt : Pawan alleges

The farmers have not been paid for the paddy produce which was procured by the government. Repairs and desilting of canals have not taken up. Minimum Support Price.

Vijayawada: Janasena party Chief K Pawan Kalyan alleged that the wrong policies of Jagan Mohan Reddy headed YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh has forced the farmers of Konaseema region to declare crop holiday.

In a statement here on Friday, Pawan said that Konaseema region is considered to be a rice bowl of the state, but the farmers in the region had announced that they had decided to adopt a crop holiday, unable to bear losses.

“The farmers have not been paid for the paddy produce which was procured by the government. Repairs and desilting of canals have not taken up. Minimum Support Price (MSP) is not being given to the discoloured paddy.

In these adverse circumstances the farmers in Konaseema region have declared a crop holiday during the kharif”, he deplored.

The actor-turned politician regretted that after 11 years, the farmers in the paddy rich Konaseema region have decided to go for crop holiday in an unavoidable situation.

The Janasena Party President said the farmers in the Konaseema region are writing letters to the government appraising their difficulties to take farming activities. The farmers opt for crop holiday very rarely and one could understand in what circumstances they had taken such a decision, he said.

Pawan Kalyan reminded that the farmers declared a crop holiday in 2011. A crop holiday was announced on nearly one and a half lakh acres then. About 13 national party leaders came to Konaseema and learned about the problems of the peasants, he recalled.

The government had purchased paddy produce of rabi season but had not disbursed money so far to the farmers. The government had to disburse Rs 475 crore to the farmers. When the farmers announced the crop holiday, the government hurriedly announced that Rs 139 crore would be credited into the accounts of farmers, Pawan said.

He demanded the state government to affiliate the MGNREGA scheme to the farming so that the farmers could get relief from paying high labour charges.

It may be mentioned here that Konaseema district Collector Himanshu Shukla said that farmers of the Godavari delta apprised him about their decision of declaring crop holiday for Kharif 2022.
