Hyderabad: Union Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy is set to inaugurate five new galleries at the renowned Salar Jung Museum on Sunday.
The inauguration ceremony, to be attended by distinguished personalities such as Dr A Yadagiri Rao, a renowned sculptor and Padma awardee; Prof Y. Sudershan Rao, former Chairman, Indian Council of Historical Research; and board members of Salar Jung Museum, will showcase the revamped galleries.
The five new galleries, along with reorganized ones, encompass a diverse collection, including The Indian Sculpture Gallery, The Bidriware Gallery, The Lamp and Chandelier Gallery, The European Bronze Gallery, and The European Marble Gallery.
The Indian Sculpture Gallery features nearly 40 objects dating back to the 2nd century B.C., including notable treasures like the fragment from Bharhut with a lotus medallion and ‘Anantsayana Vishnu’ from the Kakatiya period. The Bidriware Gallery boasts around 300 unique objects, including exquisite ‘huqqa’ bases and ewers.
The Lamp and Chandelier Gallery exhibits 180 antique objects from around the world, while the European Bronze Gallery and the European Marble Gallery showcase over 100 bronze statues and 50 excellent marble sculptures, respectively. The subjects in these galleries range from daily life to history and mythology.
The continuous efforts to innovate and upgrade the Salar Jung Museum align with new technologies and display techniques in the field of museology, with a focus on reorganizing old galleries and introducing new ones to captivate the public’s interest.
