HYDRAA Launches Restoration of 4 More Lakes at Cost of ₹107 Crore; Commissioner AV Ranganath Performs Bhoomi Puja

HYDRAA has launched restoration works for four lakes including Kapra Cheruvu, Kamuni Cheruvu, Ibrahim Pedda Cheruvu and Bhageerathamma Cheruvu at a cost of ₹107 crore. Commissioner AV Ranganath inaugurated the works.

Hyderabad: As part of its efforts to prevent floods and improve groundwater levels, HYDRAA on Thursday launched restoration works for four more lakes at a total cost of ₹107 crore. HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath inaugurated the restoration works for Ibrahim Pedda Cheruvu in Ibrahim Bagh, Bhageerathamma Cheruvu in Puppalaguda, Kamuni Cheruvu in Moosapet, and Kapra Cheruvu in Kapra.

The restoration works were formally launched in the presence of local residents, who thanked HYDRAA and the State Government for taking up the lake development projects. The works are currently underway as part of HYDRAA’s lake rejuvenation programme.

Four Lakes to Be Developed Under HYDRAA Lake Restoration Project

The four lakes included in the latest phase of restoration are:

  • Ibrahim Pedda Cheruvu, Ibrahim Bagh, Rajendranagar Mandal, Ranga Reddy District
  • Bhageerathamma Cheruvu, Puppalaguda, Gandipet Mandal, Ranga Reddy District
  • Kamuni Cheruvu, Moosapet, Kukatpally Mandal
  • Kapra Cheruvu, Kapra, Medchal-Malkajgiri District

HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath performed Bhoomi Puja at Ibrahim Pedda Cheruvu and Kamuni Cheruvu before formally commencing the restoration works.

Lake Development to Cover 311 Acres

According to HYDRAA, the lakes will be developed across the following areas:

  • Kamuni Cheruvu – 48 acres
  • Ibrahim Pedda Cheruvu – 97 acres
  • Bhageerathamma Cheruvu – 54 acres
  • Kapra Cheruvu – 112 acres

The total expenditure for restoring these four lakes is ₹107 crore.

Local Residents Thank HYDRAA and State Government

Residents who participated in the programme expressed gratitude to HYDRAA for developing the lakes.

They stated that the restoration works would not only solve drainage-related issues and reduce the mosquito menace but also improve the environment and make the areas more pleasant and attractive.

The residents also thanked the State Government for transforming these localities through lake rejuvenation projects.

HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath Issues Instructions to Contractors

Speaking during the programme, HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath instructed contractors to completely remove silt from the lakes and ensure that foul smell is eliminated.

He emphasized that the restoration works should focus on:

  • Flood prevention
  • Groundwater recharge
  • Environmental improvement

The Commissioner said efforts should be made to create an eco-friendly environment around the lakes.

Inlets and Outlets to Be Strengthened for Smooth Water Flow

A.V. Ranganath directed officials and contractors to develop:

  • Inlets for smooth inflow of floodwater
  • Outlets for proper discharge of water

He stressed that the second phase lakes should be developed on the same lines as the six lakes restored during the first phase.

He instructed that the works should be carried out without any compromise in quality.

HYDRAA Plans Pathways, Open Gyms and Play Areas Around Lakes

The Commissioner said the lake surroundings should be developed with:

  • Walking pathways
  • Recreational facilities for people of all age groups
  • Open gyms
  • Children’s play areas

He said the lakes should be transformed into attractive public spaces and tourist destinations.

Government Planning Boating Facilities in Large Lakes

A.V. Ranganath stated that the government is also preparing plans to introduce boating facilities through the Tourism Department in larger lakes.

He added that local residents should play a major role in the development and protection of lakes and cooperate to ensure that the restoration works are completed successfully.
