Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for Hyderabad and several districts of Telangana, forecasting light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong surface winds of 40–50 kmph until 7 pm on Saturday. The weather department has also forecast rain and gusty winds across the state until July 7, as a well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal intensified into a depression. Residents have been advised to remain alert and take precautions during thunderstorms.

Districts Covered Under the Yellow Warning
According to the IMD’s district-level nowcast issued at 4 pm on Sunday, the Yellow Warning covers the following districts:
- Hyderabad
- Hanamkonda
- Jangaon
- Kamareddy
- Siddipet
- Medak
- Sangareddy
- Rangareddy
- Medchal-Malkajgiri
- Mahabubabad
- Suryapet
- Vikarabad
- Warangal
- Yadadri Bhuvanagiri
The IMD said residents should be prepared for brief spells of rain accompanied by gusty winds, which may affect traffic, outdoor activities and vulnerable structures.
Low-Pressure System Intensifies Into Depression
The weather warning comes after a well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal intensified into a depression on Saturday morning.
According to the IMD, the system is expected to cross the north Odisha coast near Balasore within the next 24 hours before moving inland across north Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
The department said the system is expected to enhance rainfall activity across Telangana during the coming days.
Three-Day Rain Forecast for Telangana
Saturday (July 5)
- Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 50–60 kmph are likely at one or two places in the northern districts of Telangana.
- Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at isolated places elsewhere in the state.
- Strong lower-level winds are likely to prevail across much of Telangana.
Sunday (July 6)
- Light to moderate rainfall is expected at a few places across the state.
- Gusty winds of 50–60 kmph are likely to continue.
Monday (July 7)
- Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are likely at isolated places in one or two northern districts.
- Light to moderate rainfall is expected at a few places across the rest of Telangana.
IMD Issues Public Advisory
The IMD has advised people to:
- Remain alert during thunderstorms.
- Avoid taking shelter under trees.
- Secure loose outdoor objects.
- Exercise caution while travelling during periods of strong winds and heavy rain.
