As the IPL 2025 mega auction approaches, speculation is rife about the future of Indian cricket superstar Rohit Sharma.

As the IPL 2025 mega auction approaches, speculation is rife about the future of Indian cricket superstar Rohit Sharma.

With the Mumbai Indians’ leadership shuffle in 2024, where Hardik Pandya took over as captain, rumors are swirling that Rohit might be on the auction block. While Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals were initially seen as frontrunners to snag him, Punjab Kings have now entered the conversation.

On a recent episode of The Rao Podcast, Punjab Kings’ Head of Cricket Development Sanjay Bangar dropped a tantalizing hint, suggesting that the franchise might consider going all-in for Rohit if he becomes available.

“It all depends on whether we have the money in our pockets. If Rohit comes in the auction, I certainly believe, he is going to go for a high price,” Bangar said, hinting at the possibility of Rohit leading Punjab Kings following Shikhar Dhawan’s retirement.

While Lucknow Super Giants’ owner Sanjiv Goenka dismissed rumors of a Rs 50 crore war chest for Rohit as baseless, he didn’t rule out the possibility entirely, stating, “We have to see if MI release Rohit Sharma. Then, we have to see if Rohit makes himself available for bidding.”

With multiple franchises potentially in the fray, the IPL 2025 auction could turn into a bidding war of epic proportions for the seasoned campaigner. Will Punjab Kings pull off a coup and make Rohit Sharma their new leader? All eyes are now on the auction floor.
