Jay Shah Unveils Women’s U-19 T20 Asia Cup: A Historic Move to Boost Female Cricket in Asia

Jay Shah, President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), announced a significant development in women’s cricket on Wednesday with the launch of the inaugural Women’s U-19 T20 Asia Cup. This new tournament will take place every two years and is designed to serve as a vital preparatory event for the U-19 T20 World Cup.

The decision was made during an ACC Executive Board meeting, chaired by Shah, who is set to become the ICC Chairman on December 1.

The Women’s U-19 T20 Asia Cup aims to provide emerging female cricketers in Asia with a crucial platform to gain international experience and enhance their readiness for global competitions. By fostering this opportunity, the tournament seeks to elevate the performance of Asian teams on the world stage.

This pioneering initiative also marks a significant step in increasing the visibility and popularity of women’s cricket in the region. It establishes a structured pathway for young female cricketers, underscoring the ACC’s commitment to promoting gender equality and developing cricketing talent at all levels.

Shah highlighted the importance of the new tournament, stating, “Today represents a turning point for cricket in Asia. The launch of the Women’s U-19 Asia Cup is a landmark achievement, offering young women cricketers a much-needed platform to hone their skills and display their talent.”

“This initiative not only enhances the future of women’s cricket in Asia but also promises a lasting impact on our member nations and the global cricketing community,” Shah added.
