The Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the world’s largest and most sacred religious gatherings, is currently witnessing a massive influx of over 27.58 crore devotees at Sangam in Prayagraj.

Prayagraj: The Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the world’s largest and most sacred religious gatherings, is currently witnessing a massive influx of over 27.58 crore devotees at Sangam in Prayagraj. The historic event, which has been held after 144 years, draws pilgrims from across India and the world, who come to take a holy dip in the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers.

However, amid the spiritual fervor and devotion, a disturbing incident has been brought to light by Nidhi Chaudhary, an astrologer and popular YouTuber, who visited the site during the ongoing Kumbh Mela.

Nidhi Chaudhary’s Shocking Encounter

In a viral video shared on her social media accounts, Nidhi Chaudhary expressed her shock and disgust after witnessing the litter and human excreta scattered across the riverbanks at Sangam. The video shows her standing near the riverbank, visibly upset by the condition of the sacred site.

Chaudhary, who has been an active content creator in the field of astrology and spirituality, couldn’t hide her dismay over the situation. In the video, she is heard saying, “What is this? People have made a complete mess of things. There are gutka packets, bottles, and feces all over the place. People have relieved themselves here.”

She further added, “I am feeling so sad. I feel like crying. How can they relieve themselves here?”

The Impact of the Kumbh Mela on the Environment

The Maha Kumbh Mela, while being an event of immense spiritual importance, has also raised concerns over its environmental impact. The huge congregation of people, combined with limited waste management facilities, has led to concerns about the cleanliness of the area. In addition to the litter and human waste observed by Chaudhary, reports of overflowing trash bins, plastic bottles, and other waste being discarded on the banks have surfaced, raising alarms over the lack of effective waste management practices at the site.

Despite the religious significance of the event, the situation has sparked conversations about the need for more sustainable practices at such large-scale gatherings to protect the environment and the sanctity of holy sites.

A Call for Responsibility and Awareness

Many social media users and concerned citizens have voiced their support for Nidhi Chaudhary’s stance, calling for better facilities and a greater sense of responsibility among attendees. Some have suggested the need for better public awareness campaigns on maintaining cleanliness during religious gatherings and ensuring that sacred sites remain protected from pollution.

While the Maha Kumbh Mela continues to serve as an important spiritual and cultural event for millions, this disturbing incident sheds light on the need for better waste management and environmental consciousness during such large-scale gatherings.

As the pilgrimage continues, it is hoped that more efforts will be made to ensure that the sacredness of the event is upheld, not just through spiritual acts, but also through responsible and respectful behavior towards the environment.
