No Muslim Representation in Telangana Government, wonders Abid Rasool Khan
Abid Rasool Khan and many Muslim intellectuals have expressed their disappointment on Muslim not being nominated as an MLC amongst the two candidates nominated by Congress party under the MLA-Elected Quota.
Hyderabad: Abid Rasool Khan, former Chairman, State Minorities Commission for Telangana & Andhra Pradesh and many Muslim intellectuals have expressed their disappointment on Muslim not being nominated as an MLC amongst the two candidates nominated by Congress party under the MLA-Elected Quota.
In a press note here today, Abid Rasool Khan said the Congress party indicated that they are considering nominating a Muslim in the “Governor’s Quota. On the other hand, the Governor has stated that she would not be nominating any candidate till the ongoing legal matter pending before the High Court is finally disposed off as it is “subjudice”.
“This stand of the Governor is to the knowledge of Congress party, and it is surprising that they chose not to nominate a Muslim in the MLA-Elected Quota. It is a fact that it is the first instance in the history that an elected Government of Telangana or Government of United Andhra Pradesh has no Muslim representation in the Ministry. Telangana has a population of about 16% Muslim as reported and media report suggest that most of the Muslims supported Congress and they feel let down today”, Abid Rasool Khan said.
Congress Minority Declaration
Abid Rasool Khan said, “it is more than 45 days since the Congress Government has been formed till today and not a single commitment was given by the Congress party under “Minority Declaration dated November 9, 2023, has been implemented nor steps were taken to implement it.
“The community is concerned and watching the happenings specially matters of Waqf Board where every passing day a report of Property being Encroached or Illegally sold is being reported in the media”, he added.
“In the Minority Declaration, Congress has committed to provide Rs 5,000 crore for various welfare measures pertaining to Minorities, as per reports preparation of Budget is underway and we appeal that the promised provision of Rs 5000 crore with Sub-Plan is provided”, he said.
Abid Rasool Khan said “the Sikh Community is also awaiting the formation of Sikh Minority Finance Corporation so also Christian community is keen to see the promises made to them are implemented It is a fact that all Muslim organizations, especially Waqf Board are not constituted, hence practically have become ineffective. It’s a matter of concern that Seal of Record Room of Waqf Board has not been removed till date hindering effective protection of properties in various Courts of Law”.
