Omicron Variant: Telangana Administration on High Alert
The State Medical and health department officials were on the job to track the patients who were suffering from Covid with any new symptoms and find out if the new variant had entered Telangana.
Hyderabad: The new corona virus variant which has been found in South Africa and Hong Kong has put the Telangana administration on a high alert. All the Covid hospitals and diagnostic centres have been asked to closely monitor the symptoms of the suspected new Covid patients visiting for the treatment and medical tests.
The State Medical and health department officials were on the job to track the patients who were suffering from Covid with any new symptoms and find out if the new variant had entered Telangana.
The high alert has tightened surveillance activities at the Hyderabad International Airport. The surveillance teams are focusing on all International travelers from the transiting through Botswana, South Africa, Israel, Belgium and Hong Kong.
The health teams are screening the travelers coming from the said countries based on the guidelines released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In case travelers turn positive, their samples will be sent to the designated laboratory.
If needed, the Health department will also post additional district surveillance teams at Hyderabad International Airport to track travelers from these countries. If a traveler tests positive, they will be immediately shifted to a healthcare facility for isolation and treatment while surveilance teams will start the process of tracking their close contacts.
The Director of Public Health Dr. G. Srinivasa Rao said, if need be, other point of entries like Ports in Andhra Pradesh will also be alerted and special surveillance teams will be stationed to track travelers arriving from those countries where cases of Covid from the new Variant have been reported.
However, the Medical and Health officials said all the new cases are being closely monitored so that the spread can be check instantly. As of now, those who were infected with the Delta variant are being provided treatment with standard medical protocols prescribed by the Union government.
In case symptoms of the new variant are found, the government would alert the Union Health Ministry and seek its cooperation.
