Ponnam launches polio vaccination drive

Minister for Transport Ponnam Prabhakar launched a polio vaccination drive on the occasion of Polio Day by administering polio drops to children at Chnital Basti here on Sunday.

Hyderabad: Minister for Transport Ponnam Prabhakar launched a polio vaccination drive on the occasion of Polio Day by administering polio drops to children at Chnital Basti here on Sunday.

In the launch, the polio immunisation two droplets were given to all the children aged below five years.

Speaking on the occasion, Ponnam Prabhakar, who is also in-charge Minister of Hyderabad district, said the polio immunisation programme will not be successful without the cooperation of people and stated that today, it has become a polio-free country because of the continuous efforts by all stakeholders.

“Not a single polio case has been registered in Hyderabad since 2007. Similarly, one polio case was not registered after 2011 in the country. India was declared polio free in 2012.This achievement was possible due to everyone’s hard work,” Ponnam pointed out.

The Minister stated that a total of 2,800 centers have been set up in Hyderabad city for carrying out the polio vaccination drive in Hyderabad and the programme is being run at bus stops, hospitals, 85 transit points and 123 mobile teams.            

He further informed that 11,000 health staff will visit the door to door in Hyderabad on March 4,5 and 6 to administer polio drops to those children who are missed the vaccination.
