On Raksha Bandhan, a brother couldn’t bear to see his sister suffering from dialysis. He made a courageous choice to donate his kidney, saving her life. Dushyant Varkar and Sheetal Bhandari, from Pune, shared their moving experience, describing it as their most unforgettable moment.
Sheetal Bhandari, who underwent a successful kidney transplant in June, expressed her gratitude, stating that her brother’s decision was brave, especially considering they were already registered for kidney donation. She emphasized the special bond between siblings, unable to put into words the relationship she shares with her brother.
Dushyant Varkar explained that his sister had been dealing with kidney issues since 2017. With the help of Dr. AV Rao and Dr. Sujith Reddy, a successful kidney transplant took place from him to his sister. Dr. Sujith Reddy, a nephrologist at the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology in Hyderabad, highlighted that the brother’s intervention was essential as his sister didn’t receive a cadaver kidney. The surgery went smoothly without any complications.
The festival of Raksha Bandhan, symbolized by a sacred thread or bracelet called a Rakhi, acknowledges the strong bond between siblings.
