Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged citizens to conserve fuel, revive work-from-home practices, avoid unnecessary gold purchases, and reduce foreign travel to help India tackle the global economic crisis triggered by the ongoing war in West Asia.

Addressing a BJP public meeting at Parade Grounds, the Prime Minister highlighted the impact of global economic disruptions, supply chain challenges, and rising prices caused by international conflicts.
He called for collective participation from citizens to help the country face the difficult situation.
PM Modi Advises Public to Reduce Petrol and Diesel Consumption
Narendra Modi said petrol and diesel prices have increased sharply across the world and stressed the need to save fuel and foreign exchange.
He said:
“Since petrol and diesel have become extremely expensive across the world, it is our responsibility to save fuel and thereby save the foreign exchange spent on purchasing petrol and diesel.”
The Prime Minister advised people to:
- Use Metro rail and public transport
- Prefer car-pooling when using private vehicles
- Increase the use of electric vehicles
- Prefer railway transport for movement of goods
PM Modi Calls for Revival of Work From Home and Virtual Meetings
The Prime Minister also urged people and organisations to revive Covid-era systems such as work from home, online conferences, and virtual meetings.
He said:
“During the Corona period, we adopted work from home, online meetings, video conferences, and developed many such systems. We had also become accustomed to them. Today, the need of the hour is that we restart those practices, as it would be in the national interest, and we must once again give them priority.”
PM Modi Asks Citizens to Avoid Overseas Vacations and Gold Purchases
Narendra Modi appealed to people to avoid unnecessary foreign travel, overseas vacations, and foreign weddings to conserve foreign exchange reserves.
He encouraged citizens to support domestic tourism and celebrations within India.
The Prime Minister also advised people to avoid non-essential gold purchases for one year to reduce pressure on foreign exchange outflows.
PM Modi Promotes Made-in-India Products
The Prime Minister urged citizens to prioritize Made-in-India and locally manufactured products, including shoes, bags, and other daily-use accessories.
He also asked families to reduce edible oil consumption, stating that it would help both personal health and the national economy.
PM Modi Urges Farmers to Reduce Chemical Fertiliser Usage
Narendra Modi called on farmers to reduce chemical fertiliser usage by 50 per cent and move towards natural farming practices.
He also encouraged wider use of solar-powered irrigation pumps instead of diesel pumps.
The Prime Minister said these measures would:
- Protect soil health
- Reduce import dependence
- Support sustainable farming
PM Modi Highlights Impact of Global Wars on India
The Prime Minister said the world has been facing a major supply chain crisis since Covid, and the Ukraine war has further increased global difficulties.
He stated that the ongoing war in the neighbourhood has severely impacted India because the country imports petrol, diesel, gas, and fertilisers.
He said:
“We don’t have big oil wells. We have to import petrol, diesel and gas. The prices of petrol, diesel, gas and fertilisers have skyrocketed. For the last two months, the government has been making continuous efforts to save people from the impact by shouldering the burden.”
PM Modi also pointed out that while one bag of fertiliser costs around Rs 3,000 globally, Indian farmers are receiving it for less than Rs 300.
PM Modi Calls for Unity During Global Crisis
The Prime Minister stressed that India must remain united and place the country first during the global crisis.
He said:
“When the supply chain continues to be in crisis, no matter what measures we take, the difficulties only increase. Therefore, now we must fight unitedly, keeping the country and Mother India first.”
