GHMC Conducts Veterinary Public Health Awareness Drive Under PP-PP Programme

As part of the Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika (PP-PP) programme, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) successfully conducted the 11th week and 71st day of its ongoing public outreach initiative with a special focus on “Veterinary Public Health Activities.

Hyderabad: As part of the Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika (PP-PP) programme, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) successfully conducted the 11th week and 71st day of its ongoing public outreach initiative with a special focus on “Veterinary Public Health Activities.”

The programme aimed to create awareness among students and citizens about dog bites, rabies disease, and preventive measures to ensure public health and safety across the city.

Veterinary teams organised awareness and educational sessions at schools, institutions, and public places, where participants were educated on responsible pet care, timely vaccination of animals, and the importance of seeking immediate medical attention in cases of dog bites.

According to officials, around 1,407 students and citizens participated in the programme, reflecting growing public awareness and active involvement in community health initiatives. The awareness drive received a positive response in several areas, including Meerpet-UPHC, VPG-Goshamahal, Gowlipura, and Imdranagar Colony.

As part of the initiative, GHMC veterinary teams also carried out sterilisation of 82 stray dogs to support animal birth control measures and help reduce the stray dog population in a humane manner.

In addition, 405 Anti-Rabies Vaccinations (ARV) were administered to dogs across GHMC limits to prevent the spread of rabies.

GHMC officials stated that the initiative reflects the corporation’s continued commitment to protecting both public health and animal welfare through sustained awareness campaigns, preventive healthcare measures, and responsible veterinary management activities under the PP-PP programme.
