Adluri Lakshman Orders Statewide Safety Drive in Telangana Welfare Schools Ahead of Monsoon

Telangana Social Welfare Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar ordered a statewide safety drive in welfare residential schools, directing officials to ensure transparent admissions, clean water, hygienic hostels, uninterrupted teaching and monsoon preparedness.

Hyderabad: Telangana Social Welfare Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar on Wednesday directed officials to launch a statewide safety drive to ensure clean drinking water, hot water supply, hygienic hostels, uninterrupted teaching and transparent admissions in Social Welfare and Tribal Welfare residential educational institutions. Chairing a review meeting at the Minister’s Conference Hall, Telangana Secretariat, the Minister reviewed admissions, academic administration, student welfare and monsoon preparedness in the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS) and Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGTWREIS). Officials were instructed to strengthen infrastructure, healthcare, sanitation and academic systems while ensuring the safety and welfare of students.

Minister Reviews Admissions and Monsoon Preparedness

During the review meeting at the Minister’s Conference Hall in the Telangana Secretariat, Adluri Lakshman Kumar reviewed:

  • Admissions
  • Academic administration
  • Student welfare
  • Monsoon preparedness

The review covered institutions under:

  • Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS)
  • Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGTWREIS)

The Minister directed officials to remain fully alert to the health, safety, hygiene and academic needs of students, especially with the approaching monsoon season.

Transparent Admissions Ordered for Eligible Students

The Minister instructed officials to conduct admissions with complete transparency and strictly according to the prescribed rules.

He directed authorities to ensure that eligible students from poor and disadvantaged backgrounds receive admissions without delay or difficulty.

Officials informed the Minister that admissions have increased during the current academic year compared with the previous year.

In view of the increased intake, the Minister ordered the expansion of:

  • Infrastructure
  • Hostel accommodation
  • Classrooms
  • Teaching staff
  • Kitchen capacity

to match the growing student strength.

Temporary Teachers to Be Appointed Where Needed

The Minister directed that wherever there is a shortage of teaching personnel, temporary appointments should be made in accordance with rules and with the permission of the respective District Collectors.

He said academic activities should not suffer because of staff shortages.

Preventive Health Plan for Monsoon Season

With the monsoon expected to increase the risk of:

  • Viral fevers
  • Dengue
  • Malaria
  • Water-borne diseases

the Minister instructed every institution to implement a preventive health plan.

Officials were directed to ensure:

  • Availability of hot water for students.
  • Safe drinking water.
  • Regular cleaning of water tanks.
  • Water-quality testing.
  • Use of water purifiers wherever required.
  • Chlorination systems.
  • Filtration systems.

Special Focus on Girls’ Residential Hostels

The Minister called for special vigilance in girls’ residential institutions and hostels.

He directed that:

  • Toilets and bathrooms must be cleaned daily.
  • Sanitary napkins must be made available.
  • Disposal units must be provided.
  • Menstrual health awareness programmes should be conducted.
  • Women counsellors should be made available wherever necessary.

Medical Facilities and Emergency Response

The Minister directed that every Gurukul institution should have:

  • Basic medical facilities.
  • Emergency medicines.
  • First-aid kits.

He also instructed officials to strengthen coordination with nearby:

  • Primary Health Centres (PHCs)
  • Government hospitals

to provide uninterrupted medical care to students.

Students showing symptoms such as:

  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Skin infections

must be examined immediately and referred for treatment wherever necessary.

He also directed institutions to follow a clear health-response protocol to prevent the spread of seasonal diseases.

Strict Monitoring of Kitchens and Food Quality

The Minister instructed officials to maintain strict supervision over:

  • Kitchens
  • Dining halls
  • Storage rooms

He directed that the supply of:

  • Quality vegetables
  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Other food items

should continue without interruption.

Food stocks should be inspected regularly.

He stressed that providing nutritious food, safe accommodation and a healthy learning environment is the foremost responsibility of welfare residential institutions.

Centres of Excellence to Be Expanded

Adluri Lakshman Kumar said a preliminary decision has been taken to expand the Centres of Excellence in a phased manner.

He instructed officials to prepare an action plan to improve:

  • Competitive examination coaching.
  • Higher education opportunities.

The initiative aims to make these facilities more accessible to students from rural and backward areas.
