Telangana Vehicle and Gig Workers Call Indefinite Strike from Tomorrow, Auto, Cab and Delivery Services to Be Hit

The strike has been called by 16 vehicle unions, which accused the state government of ignoring their repeated representations and failing to address the long-pending issues of drivers and gig workers.
According to the JAC, the strike will affect autos, cabs, lorries, Ola, Uber, Rapido, Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Instamart, and several other app-based transport and delivery services across the state.
The unions said the agitation is aimed at drawing the attention of the Revanth Reddy government, alleging that despite submitting multiple memorandums, no concrete action has been taken on their demands.
Among their key demands is the immediate notification of minimum base fares and fair per-kilometre and per-minute charges for app-based transport services. They said such a mechanism is essential to ensure a stable and sustainable income for app-based drivers, delivery personnel, and other gig and platform workers.

The JAC has also demanded the immediate notification of the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Rules and the constitution of a Welfare Board for gig workers without further delay.
In addition, the unions urged the government to fully implement the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines-2025 and officially notify the minimum fares determined under the policy.
Another major demand raised by the unions is the strict enforcement of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines-2025, under which they seek a ban on the use of private (non-commercial) two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers for app-based passenger and goods transport unless such vehicles are converted to commercial registration.
The strike is expected to significantly impact daily commuters and online food and grocery delivery services across Telangana if no agreement is reached between the unions, the government, and platform companies.
