Chanchalguda Jail: Remand Prisoner Dies by Suicide After Allegedly Failing to Secure Bail

According to preliminary information, the deceased, identified as Kandi Sagar, was an undertrial prisoner in a road accident case registered in Nizamabad. Jail authorities had recently transferred him from Nizamabad Jail to Chanchalguda Jail.

Hyderabad: A 31-year-old remand prisoner allegedly died by suicide at Chanchalguda Jail after reportedly becoming distressed over his inability to secure bail.

According to preliminary information, the deceased, identified as Kandi Sagar, was an undertrial prisoner in a road accident case registered in Nizamabad. Jail authorities had recently transferred him from Nizamabad Jail to Chanchalguda Jail.

Sources said Sagar had reportedly asked his wife to take steps to arrange his bail. However, he allegedly became distressed after receiving no response or assistance from her.

Sagar reportedly took the extreme step by hanging himself inside the jail washroom. Jail officials noticed him and immediately rushed him to a hospital for treatment.

Officials said his condition deteriorated while he was being taken to the hospital, and he died on the way.

Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the incident. Further details regarding the circumstances leading to the prisoner’s death are awaited.
