Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh: A 12-year-old boy was killed after a crocodile dragged him into the Ghaghra River in Bahraich district while his uncle watched helplessly, police said. The incident occurred on Tuesday when the boy had accompanied his uncle, Udayraj Singh, to work on their agricultural field near the river. After a search operation by police and the Bahraich Forest Division, the boy’s body was recovered several hours later.

According to police, the victim had gone with his uncle, Udayraj Singh, to their agricultural field located near the Ghaghra River in Bahraich district.

While at the site, the boy went to the riverbank to relieve himself. A crocodile that was reportedly lying in wait suddenly attacked him.

Uncle Tried to Save the Child

Hearing the boy’s cries, Udayraj Singh rushed to rescue him and tried to pull him away from the crocodile.

However, the reptile overpowered him and dragged the child into the river before disappearing into the water.

Police and Forest Officials Launch Search Operation

As news of the attack spread, villagers gathered at the spot.

Police and personnel from the Bahraich Forest Division launched a search operation to locate the child.

Officials deployed nets in the river in an attempt to recover him, but the initial search efforts were unsuccessful.

The boy’s body was eventually recovered later in the evening, police said.

Residents Concerned Over Crocodile Attacks

The incident has raised concern among residents living along the Ghaghra River, where crocodile sightings and attacks have been reported in the past.

Locals fear that similar incidents could occur if additional safety measures are not taken in the area.
