The award carries a citation, certificate, plaque and cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-.

Dr Mazahar Moin completed his doctoral research (PhD) in 2017 (2011-2017) under the supervision of Prof P B Kirti, from the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Hyderabad.

His PhD project was funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) on ‘activation tagging for identification of candidate genes responsible for high water-use efficiency (WUE) in indica rice’.

Using high-throughput molecular and physiological methods, he had successfully developed and analyzed a gain-of-function mutant resource in indica rice.

This was followed by the identification and detailed characterization of novel genes responsible for yield improvement traits in rice. His current research project is sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, in the form of a prestigious INSPIRE-Faculty program.

The findings from his research work are published in high impact factor reputed journals. Dr Moin is also a recipient of the Andhra Pradesh Academy of Science Young Scientist Award in 2017.
