Jagan Mohan Rao’s Hairline Victory in HCA Presidential Election by One Vote

In a thrilling finish, Jagan Mohan Rao is elected as the Hyderabad Cricket Association president by a single vote margin, promising a new dawn for cricket in Hyderabad and Telangana.

Hyderabad: In an exhilarating electoral contest, A Jagan Mohan Rao emerged victorious as the president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) by a slender margin of one vote during the Apex Council elections on October 20, 2023.

The battleground was the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad, where Rao clinched the presidency with 63 votes against his nearest competitor, Amarnath, who secured 62 votes. Other aspirants for the presidential seat, Anil Kumar and PL Srinivas, garnered 34 and 10 votes respectively.

Rao’s win, though by the narrowest of margins, illustrates a momentous occasion within the Hyderabad cricket circles. Representing the United Members of the HCA panel, his victory is seen as a potential turning point for cricket governance in the region. The electoral race was not just confined to the presidential post. Other key positions within the HCA were also up for grabs, embodying the spirit of democracy and competition within the cricket association.

Daljeet Singh, representing the Good Governance panel, secured the vice-president post with a comfortable margin of 17 votes, totaling 63 votes. His competitors, T Srinivas and Sridhar, managed to secure 46 and 41 votes respectively. Moreover, Basavaraju, also from the Good Governance panel, narrowly edged out Chitti Sridhar by one vote to claim the joint secretary post. The vote tally stood at 60 for Basavaraju and 59 for Sridhar. The treasurer’s position was clinched by CJ Srinivas Rao from the United Members of the HCA panel, who defeated his nearest rival, Sanjeev, with a decisive 33-vote majority, amassing a total of 66 votes.

The councilor post saw a tight race too, with Sunil Kumar Agarwal of the Cricket First panel emerging victorious by a small margin. He secured 59 votes, ahead of Ansar Ahmed (50) and Vinod Ingle (47). This election cycle reaffirms the significance of each vote, portraying a vibrant democratic process within the HCA.

The electoral results reflect the composition of the new Apex Council of the HCA: President – A Jagan Mohan Rao (United Members of HCA); Vice-President – Daljith Singh (Good Governance); Secretary – R Devaraj (Cricket First); Joint Secretary – T Basava Raju (Panel for Good Governance); Treasurer: CJ Srinivas Rao (United Members of HCA); Councilor: Sunil Kumar Agarwal (Cricket First).

With fresh faces in the HCA administration, there’s an air of anticipation within the cricket fraternity in Hyderabad and across Telangana. The close-knit contests witnessed in this election could be a precursor to a competitive and innovative phase in cricket administration and development in the region.
